IPL has just crossed the half way mark and it’s that time for permutations and combinations as on who will reach the last four. At this moment CSK and RR look solid to go and are almost assured of the first two places, which means a direct entry to Champions League which might be held later this year. KXIP has been the most disappointing team of this season especially considering their personal remained unchanged after a stupendous season in 2014. MI have started to claw back after 5 consecutive losses at the start, though only time will tell if it came all too late. And there is a big four-way clash in the middle between RCB, KKR, DD and SRH for the remaining two spots. Let us now see how the numbers have stacked up this season after 39 games.

CSK has been the best team in Power Plays particularly because of the presence of Brendon McCullum at the top. They scored 90 against MI in their Power Play which is the second highest in the history of IPL. MI are the worst in the Power Play and they have tinkered their opening combinations a number of times. They started off with Rohit – Finch combo and have currently moved onto Parthiv – Simmons combo. However due to their explosive middle order comprising of Pollard, Anderson, Rayadu and Harbhajan they score 10.17 in their last 5 overs where no other teams score above 8. They have had the 3 highest scores in the last 5 overs – 81 vs RR, 80 vs KXIP & 76 vs RCB. KKR and RCB have been well below par in the slog overs scoring well under run a ball. Kohli and AB de Villiers moving up the order left a huge dent at the middle of RCB’s line up.

RR has been the worst in the death overs with runs leaking at well over 10 an over. KXIP has taken the most wickets during this period – 27, but it has come at a heavy price of 9.31 runs an over. KKR has been especially good in their middle overs when their spinners will be operating. They have taken 23 wickets at conceded only 7.37 during this period. MI has been the worst in the middle overs with just 17 wickets and conceding nearly 9 an over.

# The only 150+ partnership of the tournament was by Shreyas Iyer 7 JP Duminy vs MI off 93 balls.

# Most dismissals by a WK in IPL 2015 – 11 by Robin Uthappa (6 catches + 5 stumpings)

# Most catches by a fielder in IPL 2015 – 9 by Dwayne Bravo

While no side has looked invincible so far in the tournament unlike the previous editions, CSK and RR looks favorites though not without their respective problems. Can MI bounce back as they did last season under Rohit Sharma? Or will it be an overseas captain in Duminy or Warner holding the IPL trophy after Adam Gilchrist in 2009? We will have all the answers in another 3 weeks from now. Fingers crossed!!!
