Fast bowler Mohammed Shami has failed to clear the fitness test at the NCA in Bengaluru ahead of India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan, BCCI confirmed on Monday(June 11). As a result, the national selectors named Delhi seamer Navdeep Saini as his replacement.

Shami always had problems with his fitness, and he has to stay fit for India’s overseas tour later this year.

Backed by an excellent Ranji Trophy season, Navdeep Saini is all set to debut and is called in as the replacement of Shami. Saini has picked up 34 wickets in eight matches this year. Earlier, Saini was selected by RCB in the IPL 2018, but he didn’t play even one match for the team.

Another shocker of the day was Sanju Samson who failed to clear the fitness test as well. Samson will be replaced by 19-year-old Jharkhand stumper Ishan Kishan. Samson was removed from India A squad for the One-Day series in England after failing to clear the yo-yo fitness test.
