Over 42 Sri Lanka 203/10/Yes

Right, then! That's it from us! South Africa have gotten off on the front foot by inflicting the heaviest defeat Sri Lanka have suffered in terms of runs in the Champions Trophy. Plenty for the Islanders to work on. While they do, tomorrow we have a big one for you. India will lock horns against Pakistan at Edgbaston and you don't want to miss that. It starts at 1030 local (0930 GMT). Do join us for it. Cheers!
AB de Villiers says the wicket wasn't as true as the England-bangladesh game. Adds that it was probably possible for them to chase it down, but they (SA) needed some early wicket which they got. Sri Lanka bowled exceptionally well, credit to them. Applauds his openers for sticking it out in the first 10 overs and then Faf du Plessis as well for playing the way he did in the middle overs. Praises Hashim Amla for being an outstanding cricketer and goes on to say that he is a massive influence in the dressing room too. (On why he waited till the 18-19th over to bring on Imran Tahir) Says they have to read the conditions and then adjust accordingly. Further adds they had a chat about when the right time is and it helps that he's one of the best bowlers in the world. States they've worked on a lot of things, that the goal is to improve continuously as that's what a champion team does. Mentions their game next is against Pakistan at Edgbaston and continues saying that they will asses the conditions after going over there. Answering the question that what is his biggest headache, he says team selection as he has a well-balanced team and lot of good players, which makes his job difficult.
Upul Tharanga says they bowled well. Mentions that even after Amla and du Plessis put up a good partnership, his bowlers put in a good effort to restrict them to 300. (On not getting wickets in the middle overs, he thinks that Lakshan Sandakan can make an impact, so might consider that in the next game. Ends by saying the next game is against India and they want to come back stronger against them.
Man of the Match, Imran Tahir says he has been enjoying his cricket and feels honoured every time he puts the jersey on. Hopes his good form continues through the tournament. Adds he's always ready to bowl, the guys upfront were unfortunate they didn't get wickets but their (Sri Lanka's) batters batted well. Is quite pleased all his variations were coming off well today and that his team got the victory. Thanks everybody who has supported him, as he had a niggle in the last week and it was difficult. Ends by saying he's really looking forward to the rest of the tournament.
On the other hand South Africa, were poor with the new ball conceding 87 runs in the first 10 overs. Tahir who picked four wickets and some brilliance in the field from the skipper AB de Villiers changed the game for the Proteas. They kept chipping away with important wickets which stopped the run flow of the Sri Lankans. Earlier in the day Amla's ton and du Plessis's fifty helped South Africa reach to a respectable total. Which in the end proved to be enough for them to emerge victorious.
So, Sri Lanka after being 90 for 1 in 11 overs have been bundled out for 203 runs. Sri Lanka were well on course to chase down the score when Niroshan Dickwella and Upul Tharanga were batting. Tharanga scored a hard fought fifty but did not get any support from the middle order. The Islanders suffered a mini collapse in between, losing 5 wickets for 60 runs.
41.3
I Tahir to N Pradeep, OUT! That does it! South Africa have a win in their tournament opener and it's come via a dominant performance. Tossed up on the stumps, Nuwan Pradeep slog sweeps this in an attempt to clear the wide long on boundary. Didn't middle it at all as it's straight down the throat of JP Duminy, who takes a simple catch. Tahir gets his fourth of the game and SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 96 RUNS!
41.2
I Tahir to N Pradeep, A bit of extra bounce for Imran Tahir. He pitches this on a shorter length and it turns back in, the wrong 'un, takes Pradeep by surprise and raps him on the gloves.
41.1
I Tahir to N Pradeep, Flat, short and outside off, Nuwan off his back foot pushes it to the covers.

Over 41 Sri Lanka 203/9/No

Imran Tahir into the attack again.
40.6
K Rabada to K Perera, FOUR! Overpitched, in an attempt to score the yorker and it's been put away. Kusal Perera backs away and drills it back past mid off to end the over with a boundary.
40.5
K Rabada to K Perera, Rabada comes steaming in and pounds it in short, Perera makes room to get some bat on it but fails to do so.
40.4
K Rabada to N Pradeep, Similar shot, it's aerially through the covers. Just a single this time though.
40.3
K Rabada to N Pradeep, FOUR! Don't think he really meant to hit it there but he'll take it all the same. Rabada hurls it full and outside off, Pradeep awkwardly just chips it over the covers. It races away to the fence, beating the chasing fielders.
40.2
K Rabada to N Pradeep, On a shortish length again, angling down, Pradeep makes room and without even looking at the ball, wildly swings, only to miss horribly.
40.1
K Rabada to N Pradeep, Short of a length delivery shaping back in, on middle and leg, Pradeep makes room and looks to dab it down to third man but misses.

Over 40 Sri Lanka 194/9/No

Powerplay 3 has been signalled.
39.6
C Morris to K Perera, Brilliant stuff. Morris fires it full and wide outside off, Perera who had backed away couldn't reach it. Good over from the all-rounder has come to an end.
39.5
C Morris to K Perera, Just back of a length on the fourth stump line, the southpaw stands tall and punches it to the cover area.
39.4
C Morris to K Perera, One more accurate yorker, on leg, dug back out down the track.
39.3
C Morris to K Perera, Hurls this on a length, on the off stick, Kusal Perera slaps this through extra cover. Two runs are taken as the man out in the deep mops it up.
39.2
C Morris to K Perera, Another yorker but this one is outside off, Perera makes a little room and squeezes it out to point.
39.1
C Morris to K Perera, Comes from around the wicket and fires in a yorker on leg, Kusal Perera charges out and jams it back in the direction of the bowler.

Over 39 Sri Lanka 192/9/No

38.6
K Rabada to N Pradeep, On a good length, dabbed with an open face to backward point.
38.5
K Rabada to N Pradeep, Length delivery aiming the top of off stump, Pradeep meets it with a straight bat.
38.4
K Rabada to N Pradeep, Accurate bumper banged around off, Pradeep sways inside the line and lets it sail over him.
38.3
K Rabada to N Pradeep, Short of a good length just around off, Pradeep keeps it out from within his crease.
38.2
K Rabada to N Pradeep, Ooohhhh....... That's *just* missed! Rabada drops this on a length on middle and it jags back in heavily. Goes past the inside edge and just over the stumps before thudding into Quinton de Kock's gloves.
Nuwan Pradeep is the last man in for Sri Lanka.
38.1
K Rabada to L Malinga, OUT! He's dragged it back on! Rabada gets his first of the match. Bowls it on a back of a length around off, Malinga makes room to slap it over the off side but ends up getting a big inside edge. It goes on to hit the stumps and that's another wicket one. South Africa are just one step away from victory.

Over 38 Sri Lanka 192/8/No

37.6
C Morris to L Malinga, In the blockhole on middle stump, clipped to mid-wicket for a run.
Lasith Malinga to be the new man in.
37.5
C Morris to S Lakmal, OUT! There goes another and its that man Tahir who gets a direct hit from mid on at the strikers end. You can't keep him out of the action. Back of a length ball, Lakmal slaps it to mid on and sets of for a run, Perera does not respond and sends him back. Tahir picks up tha ball and hits the stumps at the strikers end. The umpire goes upstaris to check weather he is out and he is short off the crease. The third umpire give it out.
A run out decision against Suranga Lakmal is referred upstairs by the umpire. It looks out, even the umpire has subtly indicated so.
37.4
C Morris to S Lakmal, Length ball, Lakmal defends it off the back foot.
37.3
C Morris to S Lakmal, Full ball on middle, the batsman drives it straight back down the ground.
Suranga Lakmal walks out to the middle next.
37.2
C Morris to S Prasanna, OUT! South Africa get their seventh wicket. Prasanna was their last hope and he departs. Morris bowls it on a length on middle, Prasanna tries to flick it but misses it and gets struck on the pads. Morris goes up for an appeal and is given out by the umpire. Prasanna reviews and they go upstairs. The ball pitches in line, the impact is in line and is hitting the top of off. So three reds and the on field call stays. Sri Lanka lose their review.
The batsman has been give out and he challenges the decision.
37.1
C Morris to S Prasanna, Lands it on a length on off, Prasanna defends it on the front foot.
